Cannot open Config Manager in SQL Server

I ran into a problem where I could not open the SQL Server configuration manager.  I would get an error like the following
“Cannot connect to WMI Provider. You do not have permission or the server is unreachable. Note that you can only manage SQL Server 2005 servers with the SQL Server Configuration Manager. The specified module could not be found. [0x8007007e] ”

The fix for this is pretty simple, depending on the version of SQL Server you have run the following command from an elevating command prompt

CD to the following directory

“C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\<verion>\Shared”

Then run the following command

mofcomp sqlmgmproviderxpsp2up.mof
